Maleficent Movie Review

I finally was able to see “Maleficent” in theaters after more than a month of waiting to see it. The one plus side of seeing a movie weeks after everyone else sees it is that you are usually one of the only people in the theater. There were two other people besides my family there for “Maleficent.”

I really liked the movie! If I had to give it a rating on a 1-10 scale it would probably be an 8/10. The special effects with the fairies and Maleficent flying were awesome. I did enjoy that Disney decided to tell the history of Maleficent and why she acted the way she did. I will have to go back and watch “Sleeping Beauty” again now.

I think the three fairies were well done and I liked how they were tiny at first but turned normal size to take care of Sleeping Beauty. The fairy “Knotgrass” was played by the actress who played Professor Umbridge in the “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” movie which made it very hard for me to not think of her as Professor Umbridge during the film, especially since she had the same main wardrobe color of pink. I thought that they should have at least made her one of the other fairies who was not pink.

My only other small complaint from the film was that Lana Del Rey’s rendition of “Once Upon a Dream” was featured prominently in most of the trailers but then did not appear in the movie until the credits! I love this version of the song and kept waiting for it to appear but it never did! But “Maleficent” was a great new Disney movie and I really liked learning the back story of the evil villain from “Sleeping Beauty.”
