Tigger and my sister and I at the 1900 Park Fare character breakfast!

I wore my purple, nature friendly, biodegradable watch during the fall semester. It was easy to wear, told the time, and I like the color. But in the rush of packing to head back to school, I realized the watch needed a new battery. My other watch, a Mickey Mouse one, needs a new battery as well so I took my Winnie the Pooh watch from when I was really young back to college. I have gotten more compliments on my worn out Winnie the Pooh watch in a week than on most of my other watches. I don’t wear watches all the time, but still it was surprising.
Winnie the Pooh is a character that no one can dislike. He is a friendly bear. I was fortunate to see the original Winnie the Pooh that A.A. Milne’s child had in the children’s section of the basement of the New York Public Library a few years ago. If you are in NYC and have the time, definitely stop by. You don’t need to take a tour to see Winnie the Pooh, but just grab a map on your way down so you know where you are headed!
I have slept with a Pooh stuffed animal and/or figurine since I was very young and I love going on the Winnie the Pooh ride in Magic Kingdom. Although I was disappointed Ariel’s Grotto was removed around this time in my childhood, I had the Pooh ride to look forward to. I also used part of one of Winnie the Pooh’s wonderful quotes for my senior half page in the yearbook “Here together, friends forever.”
Over the weekend, I found myself in need of a study break but could not find anything that I really wanted to watch. So I went to Netflix and started watching “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh” which was even better than I had remembered it. I forgot that Tigger was not in the first half hour and I had forgot some of the basic story lines of what happens to Pooh.
Instead of watching the latest episode of some TV show, watch your favorite Disney character’s film this week! You may see something you forgot about years ago or you may have new thoughts on characters. Unless of course that TV show you want to watch is NBC’s “Parenthood,” probably one of my favorite TV shows ever, because this Thursday is the finale of the series.
